Green Day – Boulevard Of Broken Dreams

This is my contribution to Song Lyric Sunday for Jim Adams blog. This week’s theme is…Drifter/Loner/Transient/Vagabond.

From their 2004 album, American Idiot. The song reached #30 on Billboards Hot 100 chart on July 2, 2005. The song won a Grammy for record of the year.

From songfacts

This song is about estrangement and the recognition that the American Dream can let you down. The singer’s hopes have been crushed, and he finds himself very much alone.

This follows the main character from Green Day’s song “Jesus Of Suburbia.” He leaves town, has one crazy first night and now it’s kind of like the hangover. He’s just walking, thinking about whether it was the right decision leaving where he used to live.

In the music video for this song, you can also hear the last faded bits of “Holiday,” the other hit from the album, in the background, as this song is the follow up to that. They are using the same car as the one in the “Holiday” video.

Boulevard Of Broken Dreams

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don’t know where it goes
But it’s only me, and I walk alone
I walk this empty street
On the boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I’m the only one, and I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk alone
I walk alone and I walk a
My shadow’s the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart’s the only thing that’s beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone
Ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah
I’m walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line of the edge
And where I walk alone
Read between the lines
What’s fucked up and every thing’s all right
Check my vital signs to know I’m still alive
And I walk alone
I walk alone, I walk alone
I walk alone and I walk a
My shadow’s the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart’s the only thing that’s beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone
Ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah
I walk alone, I walk a
I walk this empty street
On the boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I’m the only one, and I walk alone
My shadow’s the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart’s the only thing that’s beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone

The sitcom premiered in 1969 and ran from 1969-1974. 108 episodes were made. It was a different show every week with different actors and actresses always having to do with relationships in one way or another. The actual first show of Happy Days was part of Love American Style and it is now considered to be the pilot episode. The first season the shows theme song was performed by the Cowsills. At the start of the second season the same song was sung by the Ron Hicklin Singers they were also the backing vocals for the Partridge Family.

From Wikipedia.

This second version of the theme was carried on for the remainder of the series, as well as on most episodes prepared for syndication. The title is loosely derived from a 1961 Italian comedy film called Divorzio all’italiana (Divorce, Italian Style), which received Academy Award nominations in 1962 for Best…

freefallin14's avatarFree Fallin'

The band was formed in 2014 and took the first name of the lead singer Dorothy Martin as the band’s name. Flawless peaked at number 8 in July of 2018 on Billboards Mainstream Rock chart. Flawless came from their album “28 Days in The Valley” produced by former 4 Non-Blondes lead singer Linda Perry.

Flawless

You said you loved me but you threw me out in the garbage
Now I’m starting to stink but everyone thinks I’m flawless
Listen to me, I can’t be what you want me to
I just came like this, I’m already black and blue
You said you loved me but you put my shit on the sidewalk
You like it when I fall and you laugh when I run into a wall
You gave nothing, I put my heart out on the table
I wasn’t always willing but baby I was always able, yeah
I’m…

Nazareth – Love Leads To Madness

No new post today but I thought I would reblog an older post.

freefallin14's avatarFree Fallin'

From the 1982 album 2XS it peaked at #19 on the Billboard mainstream rock charts. Nazareth went with a softer sound in the 80’s. The video was another MTV staple.

Do I feel alright?
I’ll go anywhere you say you wanna to take me
Save me, run away-ay-ay, steal away-ay-ay
‘Cause I feel alright
I’ll do anything you say you wanna make me
Take me, far away-ay-ay, run away-ay-ay

We’ve been up all night
Tryin’ to avoid a situation
Hold me, let me feel your way
‘Cause I wanna stay
Let them all start talkin’
We won’t give ourselves away

Our love leads to madness
Our love leads to madness
Our love leads to madness

Do you feel alright?
An’ can you see me when you’re lookin’ in your mirror
Crazy, try to find a way, so your heart don’t pay
Run away-ay-ay
Don’t you give yourself away

Our love…

Izzy Stradlin And The Ju Ju Hounds – Shuffle It All

From his 1992 self-titled album, The song never charted. You could tell it was heavily influenced by the Rolling Stones and the Faces.

From Ultimateclassicrock.

Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds was recorded before Stradlin had signed a record deal, though it eventually ended up on Geffen, home of his former band. Even though the album attracted positive reviews and overall enthusiasm from those who heard it, it pretty much came and went without much of a trace. “Shuffle It All” was released as a single, and received modest radio and MTV play, but failed to really take off. Not that Stradlin seemed to care; he just seemed happy not being part of the circus GNR had become.

The Stones and Faces influences aren’t by chance. Guest appearances by keyboardist Ian McLagan and guitarist Ronnie Wood (both of whom were in the Faces) make certain of that. Legendary session player Nicky Hopkins also contributes piano to the record. The album also includes a cover of Wood’s solo song “Take a Look at the Guy,” just in case all these connections weren’t already in place.

The Ju Ju Hounds also included Rick Richards from the Georgia Satellites.

Shuffle It All

Boredom saturation
It’s a never ending clue
Isn’t just to fill the time
When there’s nothing else to do
She drove on out of New York
She had enough insane
And drivin’ just though Texas two days
She ended up in L.A.
Shuffle it all
Shuffle it all, yeah
Shuffle it all
Pack up your life again
A pile of records spread out
The covers still look good
Picture here a Peter Tosh’s
startin’ down and a smokin’ wood
My dog dreaming is running
I see him twitch a paw
My woman playing Dr. Mario
On the TV all night long
Just another cigarette
Staring at the moon, yeah
Then I’m headin’ off to bed
Sleepin’ without you, yeah
Shuffle it all
Shuffle it all, yeah
Pack up your bags again
It’s a long and winding road
Sure enjoy the view, yeah
If you want to see it
Just slow down
You’re so welcome to come along
Lookin’ for a tune to play
I’m gonna see it again
When the day is over
Try to write you ’bout the rain
Feel the motors winding on
There ain’t no news
If you see those old friends out there
Tell them that I send my love
Wake up, time to leave again
Try to find my shoes
Put the luggage in the van
Roll up your Doctor Dolittle
Shuffle it all
Shuffle it all, yeah
Shuffle it all
Pack up your things again
Shuffle it all (Keep movin’ along)
Shuffle it all (Keep movin’ along)
Shuffle it all (Keep movin’ along)
Pack up your life again
Keep on shufflin’

Robert Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise – Once Upon A Time

I thought I would reblog this. I really love the song.

freefallin14's avatarFree Fallin'

The song was released in 1996. It was written and recorded in the wrong decade. it would have been a hit if it had been released just 10 years earlier.

From Wikipedia,

Robert Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise is an American band. It formed in 1994 when former members of the band Second Self met the blind street performer Robert Bradley. Bradley was born in Alabama, and gained musical experience and spirit by singing as a child at The Alabama School for the Blind. He had spent several years in Detroit by 1994, performing occasionally on the street, and playing on Saturdays in Detroit’s Eastern Market,  when guitarist Michael Nehra, bassist Andrew Nehra, and drummer Jeff Fowlkes overheard Bradley through an open window while rehearsing for a new project. After listening to Bradley sing for an hour, they invited him up to the studio to record several acoustic songs, then asked him…

David and David – Ain’t So Easy

Badfinger (Max)'s avatarPowerPop... An Eclectic Collection of Pop Culture

Sorry if this is showing up more than once…I’ve tried publishing it twice and cannot get it to show up in the reader.

The album Boomtown peaked at #39 in 1986 and it contained three radio hits.  Welcome to the Boomtown,  Swallowed by the Cracks and this song was released in 1986.

This song peaked at #51 on the Billboard 100 in 1986.

The two Davids were David Baerwald and David Ricketts. They broke up after their only studio album which really disappointed me because I was really looking forward to their next album. As I’ve said before there is hope…in 2016 it was reported that they are working on their second album…I have checked since then and have found nothing.

Ain’t So Easy

We can stay
Or we can move along
Either way don’t leave me all alone
I’m sorry about your eye

I’ll find a way to…

Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time, when I was in high school
I was in love with you, lady and you treated me so cool
I was drivin’ a Chevy ’72 had 4 on the floor, girl
A hundred twenty it would do

I remember Marvin Gaye, singin’
Let’s Get It On

There was a war, baby, somewhere across the sea
I didn’t wanna go and fight, girl, ’cause you were really lovin’ me
I remember Martin Luther King
Lord he was the man, baby, that gave us all a dream

I remember Marvin Gaye, singin’
Let’s Get It On
Don’t play with my love, no
I remember Marvin Gaye, singin’, Let’s Get It On

We used to have sweet music in the park
Lord up at Monterey, a they sang throughout the dark
You used to wear girl, those hot pants
When you strolled down the hall
All the boys wanted a chance

I remember Marvin Gaye, singin’
Let’s Get It On
Don’t play with my love, no
I remember Otis Redding, Sittin’ at the Dock of the Bay
Ahh, he went away
I remember Sam Cooke ya’ll, Bring It On Home To Me
From your love I can’t be free
I remember Elvis Presley, and the Blue Suede Shoes
Ahh they gave me the blues
I remember Marvin Gaye, singin’ Let’s Get It On
